Every year, the Human Rights Watch Film Festival returns to London, showcasing a selection of 10 films from around the world, each focusing on complex human rights issues with stories that demand to be heard. Alongside the stellar lineup of films are post-screening live Q&A sessions with filmmakers, activists, and Human Rights Watch researchers, providing an in-depth discussion around the issues presented on screen and bringing them into the forefront of our community’s consciousness. This year’s edition celebrates the convergence of art and human rights, featuring a spectacular programme that highlights the role of youth in rising up to confront systems of power, with a spotlight on the determination and courage of individuals standing up for their freedom and rights.
The festival returns to the iconic Barbican Centre and their new home for 2024, Rich Mix, 14-22 March. Both cinemas serve as hubs of artistic creation and expression, celebrating the voices of different cultures through music, art, cinema, and more, making them the perfect venues for a festival designed to make a difference. Accessibility is integral to the festival’s ethos, driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to important narratives through cinema. It is essential that both cinemas are wheelchair accessible and equipped with assistive listening devices for all screenings. Additionally, certain screenings will feature Audio Description and Open Captions, with live transcription (CART) available for post-screening conversations where required.
If you can’t attend in person, you can still be part of the conversation by accessing the festival online. Festival films will be available to stream across the UK and Ireland from 18-24 March.
