Mediha is the story of one girl’s fight to find her missing family members, revealing the strength and determination of a young survivor as she reclaims  her voice and future. From Executive Producer Emma Thompson, this award-winning film from Hasan Oswald is an incredible story of resilience.

Mediha, a teenage Yazidi girl, turns her camera on herself to process her trauma after surviving ISIS captivity. As she bravely faces her past, Mediha and her younger brothers, Ghazwan and Adnan, now strive to rebuild their lives despite the uncertain fates of their father, mother, and baby brother.

The complexities of both local and global operations continue to hinder rescue efforts to this day. Eight years after the genocide, the siblings must rely on a network of rescuers in their quest to reunite their missing loved ones.

Over the course of three years across Iraq, Turkey, and Syria, the story highlights one girl’s extraordinary spirit. Through her personal video-diaries, she confronts her trauma and pain as she initiates investigations into her captors. Mediha’s journey is one of courage and determination as she steps bravely towards a future of justice and healing.

Campaign Objectives

Mediha is now 19 years old. She is brave and determined beyond her years and has become an advocate for her community. She has the potential to help other Yazidi women and girls in very similar circumstances, and we believe that she, a Yazidi survivor herself, is the best person to do this.

It’s through Mediha’s participation in the film that her desire to become an advocate grew into something tangible. She saw through increased awareness how her life, and lives of women and girls in her community, could change for the better. As a result of participating in this project, Mediha has engaged in several advocacy training programs and spoken at forums like Human Trafficking Foundation, Peace and Freedom Organization, Nineveh Victims Forum, and Yazidi Law Conference in Amsterdam.

Our campaign will be governed by close consultation with Mediha herself and other members of the Yazidi community, as well as expert partners — such as Human Rights Watch, Lotus Flower and The Nemam Ghafouri Memorial Fund.

A group of women in Austin, Texas join forces and help build a movement of plaintiffs legally challenging the system that allowed their rapists to walk free. An Army of Women is the landmark story of women fighting to hold law enforcement accountable, with resounding relevance worldwide. When Amy, Marina and Hanna’s rape cases are dismissed by the Austin police, all three women try to find a way to rebuild their lives. They join forces with twelve other women in a ground-breaking federal class-action lawsuit, the first to argue that sexual assault isn’t prosecuted because it’s a crime that predominantly affects women. The group is determined to hold police and prosecutors accountable for their inaction, but their resilience is tested as they face setbacks from the system they hope to change. Ultimately, AN ARMY OF WOMEN offers a hopeful look into a movement that aims to change the future for women everywhere.

Campaign Objectives

AN ARMY OF WOMEN has enormous potential to create structural and cultural change and put sexual assault on the agenda across the US. The vision for a wide-reaching campaign is to ensure that survivors are met with support and belief. THE WALK is based on an extraordinary artistic endeavour in 2021 which saw a 12 foot tall puppet called Amal travel for three months across Europe, raising awareness of the plight of unaccompanied young refugees.

The film follows the journey of Amal, from the Syrian border, all the way across Europe, as she searches for safety and a place where she feels welcome. In the film she is a real girl with a real voice (an inner monologue narrated by a Syrian refugee), which expresses the hopes and fears that a young girl would feel on this journey.

Just like any human, she struggles with a diversity of emotions. She has her thoughts, memories, dreams and fears that we witness along her journey. She meets lots of other refugees like her, all on their own journeys, and she also meets plenty of people who don’t want her in their country.

THE WALK is not a typical documentary. It mixes vérité documentary with fantastical semi-scripted elements to create a fairytale for adults.

Campaign Objectives

The campaign for THE WALK will seek to contribute to a world in which child refugees are not forgotten about, that their futures are bright and that their safety is a priority. As such, our impact objectives are underpinned by the following campaign values:

  • Our campaign will seek to advocate for the safety of refugee and migrant children as an international priority.
  • Our campaign will seek to champion the diversity that migrants bring, celebrating the ways in which their culture and histories enrich our communities.

Impact Objectives:

  • Change the narrative surrounding refugees & migrants
  • Unify communities around refugees through art
  • Highlight the child refugee experience
  • Support child refugees like Amal

Successes So Far:

  • DOC NYC World Premiere
  • CPH:DOX Official Selections
  • Since July 2021, Amal has travelled over 8,000km to 15 countries, and been welcomed by more than a million people on the street, including hundreds of artists and civil society and faith leaders, as well as by tens of millions online.
  • Amal travels from country to country, visiting towns and cities along the way. At times her journey is exhilarating as she is welcomed with open arms and festivities into communities. At times it is emotional, as she meets other refugees, hears their stories and sees how they are forced to live in the underbelly of Europe. And at times it is terrifying, as violent protests against refugees erupt against her. But all the while, she never loses hope that she can find a home.
  • It is hoped that Amal’s journey might encourage advocacy and strengthen awareness, empathy and conversation around the global refugee crisis at a time when it is sorely needed, as policy debates rage around immigration.
