To celebrate World Environment Day on the 5th June, we hosted 2 special preview screenings of FOOD, INC. 2, an eye-opening documentary that delves deep into the complexities of the modern food industry. In collaboration with our friends at Dogwoof, Together Films presented two exclusive previews in London and Brighton. Leading organisations from the food, sustainability, and environmental sectors were present, reflecting the strong support for raising awareness and fostering dialogue about the urgent need for more sustainable food systems.
LONDON: Preview with Eric Schlosser and Areeba Hamid
The event at Curzon Soho was graced by the presence of Eric Schlosser, the author of Fast Food Nation & FOOD, INC. 2 producer, and Areeba Hamid, the Executive Director of Greenpeace UK. Their insightful post-screening discussion provided attendees with an in-depth understanding of the film’s themes and the pressing issues surrounding food production and sustainability.
Eric Schlosser emphasised the critical need for transparency and reform:
“It’s not just an American story, it’s happening everywhere. The food industry needs to be exposed. The issues need to be addressed. Policies have to be changed.”
Areeba Hamid highlighted the environmental impacts of current food practices and emphasised the importance of activism and policy change to ensure a sustainable future.
BRIGHTON: Engaging with local leaders
The following day, 6th June, our second impactful event took place at Duke’s at Komedia Picturehouse in Brighton. This screening featured Adele Jones, Executive Director of Sustainable Food Trust, and David Edwards, Deputy Executive Director of Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, moderated by Callum Etches, Impact Lead at Sustainable Food Places. Their expertise brought a local and national perspective to the discussion on sustainable food systems.
Their conversation covered critical topics such as the need for transparency in the food industry, tackling the power of corporations in highly consolidated global markets, and identifying the right policies for sustainable food systems:
“We need to make sure local voices are heard on a national level when it comes to policy making”
– Adele Jones, Executive Director of Sustainable Food Trust
FOOD, INC. 2 is screening at cinemas from 7th June and will also be available on-demand from the same date.
