Together Films has acquired Jeanie Finlay‘s feature documentary, YOUR FAT FRIEND for international sales.
The deal was initiated by Together Films Founder Sarah Mosses and International Sales & Acquisitions Manager, Jess Reilly with director and producer Jeanie Finlay and consulting producer Suzanne Alizart.
Funded by Field of Vision, BFI Doc Society Fund awarding National Lottery funding, with development support from Broadway Cinema and made over 6 years, director Jeanie Finlay charts the rise of writer and activist Aubrey Gordon from anonymous blogger “Your Fat Friend” to NY Times best selling author and beloved podcaster. Her aim? A paradigm shift in the way we see fat people and the fat on our own bodies.
Her life changing work has brought her an ardent, international audience but also threats to her life. One of her biggest challenges is getting her parents to listen.
YOUR FAT FRIEND is about fatness, family, the complexities of change and the deep, messy feelings we hold about our bodies.
The film is directed and produced by Jeanie Finlay through her Nottingham production company Glimmer Films, she is one of Britain’s most distinctive documentarists. She has made 9 feature films, for HBO, IFC & BBC Storyville and others including; Seahorse; Game of Thrones: The Last Watch; SOUND IT OUT; The Great Hip Hop Hoax and Orion. Jeanie is a Chicken & Egg Awardee with retrospectives at MOMI, BFI & Criterion Channel.
YOUR FAT FRIEND had its world premiere at Tribeca, and international premiere at Sheffield DocFest where it won the audience award. It was also longlisted for two BIFAs: Best Feature Documentary and the Raindance Maverick Award.
“We are absolutely thrilled to bring YOUR FAT FRIEND to audiences internationally. Jeanie Finlay has made an incredibly thoughtful and impactful film that ignites a crucial conversation about fatness and the way we perceive and talk about our bodies. We firmly believe the film has huge commercial and impact potential and will resonate with audiences all over the world.” said Jess Reilly, International Sales & Acquisitions Manager (Unscripted).
Director Jeanie Finlay adds: “I couldn’t be happier to be working with Together Films on bringing YOUR FAT FRIEND to an international audience. They care deeply about the films they take on, tailoring a creative approach for each one, which is essential in a creative partner.”
Together Films will be presenting the film to buyers at DOC NYC and IDFA.
