On November 13, we were proud to host an exclusive MEDIHA Virtual Q&A with Hasan Oswald (Director) and Mediha Alhamad (Participant & Co-Cinematographer), hosted by Sara Dosa – the Oscar-nominated director of Fire of Love.
A powerful testament to the human spirit, Mediha turns her camera on herself to process her trauma while rescuers search for her missing family members, revealing the strength and determination of a young survivor.
To this day, more than 2,600 Yazidi women and children remain missing after suffering unimaginable hardships under ISIS captivity. While occasional stories of survivors returning surface, these accounts rarely capture the full reality of their journeys—what it takes to rebuild a life and rediscover one’s self after such profound trauma. MEDIHA offers a rare and courageous window into that process, showing not just survival, but the strength and resilience required to reclaim one’s life after unimaginable loss.
After a sold-out U.S. debut in New York last month, MEDIHA has returned to the UK for exclusive Q&A previews ahead of its UK release on 22 November. On Saturday, 3 November, BAFTA hosted a special event featuring a Q&A with director Hasan Oswald and executive producer Emma Thompson, moderated by multi-Emmy award-winning journalist Hind Hassan.
The film will be released in select UK cinemas starting 22 November.
