MEDIHA made its sold-out U.S. debut at New York’s Film Forum on October 11, perfectly timed to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child. The premiere began with heartfelt introductions from Waad Al-Kateab (FOR SAMA) and Nisha Pahuja (HOW TO KILL A TIGER), setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.
On Saturday, October 12, Women for Women hosted a special screening, followed by a thoughtful Q&A with director Hasan Oswald, the film’s main subject Mediha Alhamad, Women for Women CEO Laurie Adams, and moderator Deborah Amos from the Overseas Press Club.
A powerful testament to the human spirit, MEDIHA follows the remarkable journey of one girl’s fight to find her missing family members, revealing the strength of a young survivor. Mediha, a teenage Yazidi girl, turns the camera on herself to process her trauma after surviving captivity under ISIS. The film, executive produced by Emma Thompson, has been making waves on the international film circuit since its world premiere at DOC NYC last year.
Following its New York debut, MEDIHA will open this week in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Royal on Friday October 18. Director Hasan Oswald and main participant Mediha Alhamad will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. Buy tickets now to join us.
MEDIHA will then arrive in the UK with a series of Q&A previews leading up to its official release on November 15. The film is also part of an awards campaign, targeting both the Academy Awards and BAFTA in the documentary categories.
