Our congratulations go out to IN CAMERA filmmaker Naqqash Khalid for winning the BFI & Chanel Filmmaker Award at this year’s BFI Luminous Gala. Winning alongside Pinny Grylls, co-director of GRAND THEFT HAMLET, and Luna Carmoon, director of HOARD, the accolade celebrates emerging talent within the UK’s film industry.
This prestigious award, which comes with a £20,000 grant, recognises Khalid’s distinctive voice as a rising filmmaker and bold storyteller. The winners were selected by a jury made up of actor Tilda Swinton, Edward Enninful, former Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue, Marie-Louise Khondji, founder of Le Cinéma Club, and Ben Roberts, Chief Executive of BFI.
Khalid’s debut feature, IN CAMERA, has been wowing critics and audiences alike since its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2023. The film follows Aden—played by Nabhaan Rizwan—a young actor caught in a cycle of nightmarish auditions. After multiple rejections, Aden takes it upon himself to find a new role to play.
The film, financed by BBC Film and the BFI (awarding National Lottery funding), in association with Uncommon Creative Studio, had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in 2023 and was released in UK and Irish cinemas on 13th September via Conic Film.
We’re proud to be representing IN CAMERA for international sales as the film continues to reach new audiences.
